“People will tell you that things are only going to get crazier. Maybe they will. But they don’t have to. You don’t have to. You can slow down. You can take a breath. You can take back your mind.”

How The Sanctuary Came to Be
Before The Sanctuary existed in its physical form, it lived quietly in Kate’s knowing and journal drawings. For years, she carried a certain sense that land was coming. People would gather, transform, and return to themselves on this land and in its buildings. In 2019, while living in her van on the Red Road, she sketched drawings of what would one day become this sacred gathering place. Years passed, and Kate moved from upstate New York to van life, then to Taos, New Mexico, and eventually landed back in Oregon, where she had lived for many years prior. Kate’s inner knowing continued, and once she had landed in Oregon, the message grew clearer:“Build The Sanctuary.”
In winter 2024, while recovering from illness, she was guided to check Zillow, where the property had just been listed an hour earlier. Before making an offer, she visited the property several times to connect with the Spirits of The Land and its ancestors…listening and waiting. Eventually, The Land responded: “Yes, you may come, but we need you to do three things every day: walk The Land, pray to The Water, and gather people around the fire - to heal the land and each other.” Kate agreed to the request. She moved in June 2024, and The Sanctuary was born.
Since then, the relationship between her and The Land has deepened into a sacred bond and partnership rooted in listening and trust. The Land speaks and continues to share its wisdom through sounds, senses, and subtle felt experiences. Kate listens, walks, and prays. She is the receptor of the Spirits’ strong guidance and communication, the steward of the building and nurturer of The Sanctuary’s spaces and purpose.
People gather here for the group events and individual sessions Kate offers, while others visit simply to come lie on the ground, to feel held by the circle of trees and the Spirits that dwell, to breathe, remember and return to their truest selves. The Sanctuary is not separate from the real world. Yet, it offers a space within the world, a portal, that serves as a sacred place to nourish naturally.

Forest bathing is not a slow trail hike or form of exercise; rather, it is a mindfulness practice that enhances overall well-being. It’s less about physical exertion and more about presence.
Benefits include reducing stress and anxiety, improving sleep and immunity, enhancing mood and focus, stimulating creativity and problem-solving skills, and fostering a deeper connection with the natural world that may leave you feeling awe, gratitude, and a greater sense of belonging. -
