Why See a Shaman?
Many feel drawn to a shamanic healing session the moment they hear about shamanism for the first time. Many say they don't know why, but simply knew they had to come. Shamanic healing addresses the spiritual aspect of disease, the part of the illness that is in your spirit, soul or energy body.
The techniques I use reinstate wellness by restoring power and establishing balance between your physical and spiritual/energy bodies. I essentially follow the lead of healing spirits who guide me to do the work.
Shamanic healing complements western medicine that focuses on curing a patient’s symptoms or illness. Shamans believe that healing on the spiritual level can prevent conditions from appearing in the physical body and that healing the spirit allows the body to heal once a condition has appeared.
When Might I Need a Shamanic Healing?
There are many reasons you might seek the support of a shaman:
- Emotional unease -- depression, anxiety, worry, long-lasting grief, anger/rage or trauma.
- Relief of physical symptoms such as insomnia, recurring nightmares, sudden weight gain or loss, chronic pain, migraines, physical addiction or relationship-related issues.
- One of the most common reasons -- addressing a sense of being stuck or blocked.
What Happens During a Session?
The techniques I use address your whole-self, including the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, to create balance and shift your perspective that leads to healing.
I begin every healing with platicó (consultation) and energy scanning. I put out a call to the healing forces in nature (mountains, water, air, fire, earth) and my spirit guides (ones that I connect and work with in particular) while holding the intention to ‘heal for your highest good.’ I will be guided on what to do or use for your session which may address something emotional or physical, but it is always intended to give you more spiritual power.
My healing techniques will call upon a combination of using plants; flowers; herbs; oils; smoke & fire; breath; stones; eggs; feathers; trago (infused waters and liquids); shamanic journeying & drumming; sound healing (whistles, bells, chimes, toning); cord cutting; tacuma needles; plant medicines and energy center (chakra) clearing. Often I use oracle tools such as the runes or card decks that I sense will support your healing session.
How does Shamanic Healing Work?
The helping Spirits work through the shamana or curendera to cure diseases and illness. In shamanic healing, we classify disease in three broad categories each of which we treat differently -- soul loss, power loss and possession.
In my experience, the spirits always cure but the cure does not always manifest in the way we might imagine. Shamanic healing doesn't always result in instantaneous, complete physical cures, though they sometimes can.
A shamanic healing session combined with a change in my diet cleared my asthma. The medication and inhalers I was taking caused painful side effects resulting in severe dry mouth and my salivary glands blocking completely. After stopping use of the inhalers and one shamanic Limpia healing session, I was able to breathe fully and deeply without any western medicine. The inflammation in my lungs vanished.
You may receive such a healing and the more you open yourself to that possibility the more you will allow the healing elements to come in.
My Shamanic Training
To be a shaman is to walk a path with humility. It is a journey in Spirit that continues through lifetimes. I am on that path, many call the Red Road, following my call and I will continue to learn as I walk the path.
I have apprenticed under a South American-trained Yachak and a curandera of Maya & Taino traditions. I have studied intuitive energy medicine at the Academy of Intuition Medicine in Sausalito, CA and sound healing at the Sage Academy of Sound Energy in Woodstock, NY. I'm mentored by a Taino-Lakota medicine man and several Quechuan shamanas and medicine people in Ecuador in Andean curandera and Native American traditions. I have several powerful spirit teachers and guides who accompany me. I am grateful and humbly available to the Divine to serve as healer and guide.
